New Moon? No Moon!

I just wanted everyone to know I can't find my copy of New Moon. Women, cry a bit with me, and men rejoice!

  1. god, Rachel, you make me laugh. That is such a bummer. If you were here (or I were there) you could come over and borrow mine. I think I'm done for about 6 months. Well, 5, because I know I'll want to reread everything just before Eclipse comes out. Victoria

  2. Well, it is bound to be on sale at Walmart, and a second copy of a book you like can't hurt! Or you can find it at the library. Not tonight of course but I'm not going to send you my copy! Couldn't do that tonight either. Oh, wait...where is my copy?

  3. Thanks guys! I think I will buy it at Wal-Mart. Went for 4 years without that store in my life so any excuse to go there now is HEAVEN!

  4. You know, when my kids were little they both had pacifiers. I made them both give them up on the same day by having them throw them in the dumpster so they would know the pacifiers were gone. I thought they would whine and complain for days, but after about 5 minutes they were on to bigger and better things and didn't look back. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise for you that you lost your book ;-)

If you want to read a really good story, read the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. If, by the 5th chapter (Winternight) of the 1st book "The Eye of the World" you aren't hooked, then we can all agree that you are certifiably insane and we can grant you immunity on all future posts.

  5. Hey Rachel, perhaps you and I could read the Wheel of time series, and find the flaws in them, then post, and post, and post about it until everyone realizes the benign nature of the twilight series. :)

  6. Would that be benign like a tumor is benign?

  7. I challenge you to read the entire WOT series Jen, you can't point out a flaw with the stories that Nate or I haven't noticed before. And I did read the twilight series. You are comparing apples to rotten sewage. The WOT books being the apples. I also agree with Nate, perhaps this is your sign to move on to some better reading. And while I'm at it, why aren't you reading them Victoria? I think you would love these books. There is plenty of romance in them, as well as good mannered characters. The characters are so divers and plentifull that you end up comparing them to your own family members. Victoria would be an Aes Sedia of the Brown Ajah, Rachel would be of the Green Ajah, Jen you would be of the Yellow Ajah. I don't know if Nate would be a Warder or an Ashaman. Perhaps both, or maybe one the Aiel chiefs. Cousin Andrea would be one of the Forsaken, or of the Black Ajah at the very least! Nancy would be a perfect Siuan Sanche or one of the Wise Ones. The list goes on and on. If you want to know what I'm talking about, read the books.

  8. Amen to Nancy as Siuan! I'm flattered by the reference to the Aiel clan chief, thank you. The Asha'man seems about right though, maybe Asha'man Warder. Jon, you would be an excellent fit for Matrim. For Rachel, Green Ajah yes, specifically Elayne. Pretty, strong, stubborn, knows what's best for every body and utterly annoying to be around. My mom and Jen are good too, not quite sure about Andrea as a Forsaken though, explain please. I've seen a few character cast wish lists online, but I've never thought of making a character cast list with my family. Jon, how do you feel about Aunt Elaine as Elaida? And except for his volubility, Mikey might be a good Wolf King. And Shawn as Uno.

I think, perhaps, that the comparison to rotten sewage may be a bit strong as I have not read the Twilight books, but at the least the WoT series makes the Twilight books into a droll romance series. If anyone doubts me, I second Jon's challenge to read the books. How anyone can really compare these two series is really beyond my grasp though. The WoT series was first conceived in the mid 70' and after years of research and contemplation, the first book was published in 1990. And all this for a FANTASY book. The Twilight books began from a dream that occurred on June 2, 2003 and was written directly after. I do not draw the comparison to disparage the writer of Twilight, but to illustrate the point that a dream induced romance novel with sparkly vampires can in no way be compared to the idea of women as strong central characters and backed by years of research, even if it is only a fantasy book. I would most heartily welcome and sincerely look forward to lively discussions with anyone about the Wheel of Time series. I would go farther than Jon to say that most characters in the WoT books have more manners that most people alive today, and yes, there is plenty of romance. I dare any of you who haven't read these books to do so and not find romance as deep or vastly deeper than anything in Twilight.

  10. You two get to jointedly play Victoria in Twilight - out to get everyone if they do you wrong :-)

  11. Nobody has done me any wrong, I just like to push buttons to see what happens. You should try it, it can be really entertaining, especially if it's not done with malice.
